- No need to book a super-expensive full Y ticket to OGG. Just find the cheapest fully refundable RT fare and book that to hold (I used SJC-RNO) - and book it for as far out as you can.
- When you know your plans, you can make the changes online - you can change either segment or both and can completely change the origin, destination, and date. It will reprice accordingly, accounting for the companion fare.
- The only thing you can't do, I think, is extend it out beyond a year - so if you booked the holding ticket today, your modified flights need to be within a year of today. Spring 2021 would be too late.
Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for the reply! Yes, I realized after I booked it that I should have picked a much less expensive full Y ticket. And I should have booked out a little farther into December. Next time, I will know better.
So since I booked the flight on 1/27/2020 (companion certificate expiration) for 11/7/2020, I thought that I could extend it 330 days past 11/7/2020, worst case. That would allow me to still use it for Spring 2021. I thought that this was how the "extension" would work. I also could use some clarification as to when the refundable ticket value expires. It is a year from the purchase date or a year from the first travel date purchased?
