Thanks to the congestion of the airways the west bound flights are getting rather low flight levels. The fuel burn at 32000, unfavorable jetstreams plus a longer route must be terrible for fuel effeciency...
Terrible for fuel efficiency, no doubt.

What I find even more worrying: LH, LX and many others route their flights to/from India, SIN etc. north of Iran now, then going through Afghan airspace, very close to (Herat) where the plane crash happened yesterday; not yet clear whether it was an accident or shot down by Taliban, as they claim.
