Gotta say...OP is much more flippant and easy going than I'd be in this situation. The difference, to me at least, between PP and even Economy Plus is HUGE. Favorable schedule or not, I'd be on the horn moving my flights or making sure that upgrade to Polaris is pushed through manually. PP is sold as a separate cabin, priced as a separate cabin and should be treated no different than if someone had before purchased a GF seat and ended up on a 2-class plane, or if downgraded from a business class to economy seat (lie-flats, domestic config or whatever--to me the downgrade is in the same scope). We're talking a seat with significantly more overall personal space, catered differently, amenity kits, free alcoholic beverages--pretty much all of the amenities of business class that the OP will not be receiving. I'd be making a much bigger (albeit polite and firm) stink about it.
