In my (OP) case, the itinerary was similar, with the two domestic AA segments booked with a BA flight number, all on one BA ticket. Yet two calls to BA were denied on the grounds that the reservation was made by a TA. Of course, the TA was never able to upgrade the ticket, even after several calls/emails to BA.
