I guess my question is not why are BA not flying to XYZ as I know they go where the money is. More that why over recent years have new additions only been 1/2 weekly, have more slots been awarded to Long Haul when Euro routes get dropped/decreased?
I think you’re very right about flag planting. I (and I’m sure many others) would love BA to keep flying to every big city as they’re the ‘Flag Carrier’, however I know that in business you aren’t going to just fly a route for prestige - it has to make money. In fact airlines that do keep flying unprofitable routes for show are the ones that are badly managed and usually loss making.
