Question Weekend stay cheaper if two nights booked as separate bookings?

Looking at a weekend stay in Budapest: Fri-Sat is €200, Sat-Sun is €170, the whole weekend is €450. Exactly the same room type and rate.

That's quite a big difference... Does this happen a lot and do you guys usually put through two bookings when it does? Are there any downsides?

I suppose if the same room type is available both nights then just the tiniest bit of planning would prevent me from having to change rooms - and it must be in the hotel's interest too. Either way I wouldn't really care as I'd be out all day anyway. Upgrades might be a bit trickier?

Live chat wasn't very helpful either - would they be able to link the bookings afterwards maybe?
