Thanks, kevflyer. LAX I wouldn't worry about as much, since there are multiple flights per day. It's places in the US Midwest with just one AS flight per day each direction, and no direct flights on other airlines. There are worse things than an unexpected overnight in Omaha, but I'd rather get home on the same day for domestic turnaround MRs. I'll give it a try though, and thanks for the reply.
