Pretty much every big-city full-service MR property identifies itself as "convention" and my experience has been that plenty of them use this to get out of the late checkout requirement. Not saying the benefit is worthless, just that in my experience the Marriott "guarantee" has been more or less equivalent in practice to the combination of Hilton's soft benefit and asking nicely at the front desk.
