Advice on handling schedule change that really changes trip

May I draw upon your collective expertise here for how I might approach Delta.

A few months ago I purchased a full fare first class ticket with a one stop itinerary.

Delta changed their schedule such that it is no longer possible to do my trip on DL without a two stop itinerary.

They offered to refund my ticket. That would be fine and I can do the same itinerary with one stop on another carrier. However, I purchased my ticket many months ago at a cost of about $400. Delta has now changed their schedule so close to my departure date that Delta and the other airlines are now charging around $1200 for the same itineraries. So simply refunding my ticket still leaves me in a lurch given I need to travel on that day.

I spoke to s supervisor who said he cannot offer a travel voucher of more than $200 plus the cost of the cancelled ticket and he told me there was no one else I could talk to because he was a Customer care supervisor. Do any of you know if there is anyone else I might try to contact at DL to see if they could increase my DL credit to help close the cost of the differences in airfare because of this schedule change. I am Diamond and fly a lot with Delta, but the supervisor said he was only offering the extra $200 because of my status.

Also, if people think that I'm off base here and should just eat the cost myself or take the double connection, please do let me know. I don't want to contact DL to ask for something inappropriate. I just felt like this was not a typical schedule change because it resulted to no other flight being available, and was done so close to the trip that a new ticket is very expensive.

Thank you for your thoughts and advice on this!
