I would probably suggest exploring credit cards other than the Amex Platinum - neither version seems particularly valuable or even break even in your case.

(btw, if you have any Mastercard or Visa cards, including ones from the US, check out Curve - it’s a great way to avoid foreign transaction fees & use a Chip + PIN card)
