If you travel on business it’s up to your employer to find a method of payment that works. They can’t force you to apply for a card though may ask you to use a corporate card. So keep on using your Amex until they provide you with an alternative.
I can only echo this sentiment.
Sounds like you are UK based, so as a backup you could consider Halifax Clarity as mentioned (this is my 'sorry we don't accept Amex' card) there are no charges and means you don't have to pay with debit card, but also no rewards. Not many cards have zero charges when used abroad, and it's not reasonable to ask you to apply for several credit cards as this can negatively impact your credit score.
