For me, a painful way to achieve 1K would to be fly to work meetings back and forth on the same routes, same crappy UA planes, every week, especially domestically.... but anyway.....
The vacation destinations are planned first, then the flights. We have about 15 weeks to plan this year. There is lots of time to fly where we want, and get status while at it.
I wasnt even planning on 1K this year, but then a fare for the summer came up on partner F that will net 6500+ PQP for ~$2000 spend. So I said why not....and we are doing Singapore trip at the end of our European vacation.
