Sorry for the dumb arse questions, my AC travel is primarily domestic so I have little experience with this.

1. Yes, you will earn Aeroplan points register it before flying.
2. You cant use eupgrades outside of AC. If you booked in C,D,J classes - you can use 50,000 Aeroplan miles to upgrade to First Class
