I checked in the night before at the FRA Sheraton (I assume there is no connection between the two events) and saw the SSSS on my boarding pass, called United and they were unable to reissue the boarding pass because it originated on Lufthansa (even though the LHR-LAX segment was -016 stock). The secondary screening wasn’t bad, but my Global Entry did not work at LAX and I had to go back and wait in the regular line. Not sure if there is a specific relationship between SSSS and failed Global Entry but in this instance they both happened. I checked in tonight at the Sheraton Skyline at LHR and everything went through as usual for my LHR-DEN and DEN-SNA flights tomorrow morning - TSA PreCheck on all boarding passes and no sign of SSSS.
Got it again this morning on 1/17/2020 traveling from CDG-SFO. I have to admit that the French authorities pulled a large number of people aside for secondary screening, but at least they were doing it proactively in the 45 minutes prior to departure versus doing it right as the boarding process starts. Global Entry worked fine at SFO, but TSA PreCheck did not show up on my connecting boarding pass so I got the joy of taking everything out for screening once again.
