I was given a travel alert and i have an aa flight connecting to an etihad flight coming up and was wondering if its better to wait until i check-in or call before hand to see my options. Any ideas?

Also does the check-in agent have more authority to make changes than the phone agent? What is our best bet given likely many will be affected? thanks
