Yeah Hilton and Marriott have the "additional requests" section that I just type the request into and it's typically honored. If hotel looks like it could be booked I just contact the hotel directly (email or phone call) and they add a notation to the reservation.

I was looking at the Hyatt website for a DC hotel.... the only 2-bedroom availability for the dates that I wanted was the Park Hyatt's president suite... only $8,000 per night!

LOL -- the 2 bedroom suite at the Residence Inn that you found is more along the lines of what I was thinking. If you did a 4 adult search and click on the RIs in DC you'll see the 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom suite options
