I have flown CA quite often in long-haul business and I concur with your trip report. Thanks for posting. While things may not be as polished as say SQ, they genuinely try extremely hard to meet your needs. For example the champagne is often not cold, so they will put an ice cube in it. Not perfect, but for the prices!

The lounges at PEK are basic but sufficient - although they have pretty strict meal times and it's difficult to get something more substantial outside the meal time windows.

I've not experience queues like you did at immigration but it wouldn't surprise me. The short-term visa free entry always seems like a bit of a tack-on service and not well thought through. It should almost be the equivalent of an express line. (Just a thought.)

I had a hotel once for my transit but I had problems finding the transit desk, then the bus. Maybe things are better signposted now. (This was a few years back.)

I'm glad you enjoyed your flights. Air China does offer a lot of bang for your business class buck.
