This was certainly the case, my room was right in front of theirs which was very convenient --- no complaint there!
I think the real charm of SGS shows itself after multiple stays, once the staff and management get to know you. But there are certainly a wealth of Marriott options in Bangkok, with something to suit every taste. After SGS, my next choice is the Athenee, with its fantastic pool. StR also has very nice hardware.
Maybe it is different once one is a regular, but at least based on this experience I do not think I would go out of my way to go back to the SGS, especially given how many options Bangkok offers. (The Athenee is on my to-do list, perhaps for a leisure stay.)
