I'm too risk averse. Paper/electronic book or movies on phone while seated somewhere inside the airport, and 1.30 hours or even two are not a problem to wait for the check-in to open, having the peace of mind to be already there.

P.S.
Regarding the 3h limit per lounge in EU, did you mean priority pass ones?
