I could also get on the LHR flight in YVR but same thing. I also asked to bee put on the YYC-LHR flight which departs a but later but same thing. "We will see once you get there." I am not in a crazy rush so I will just wait and see indeed and am not too stressed out about it. But compared to BA, LH and LX I find AC to be rather inflexible beforehand though definitely better once you are on your way.
