For us it makes sense because Delta is a distant third on the miles collection side and I’m never going to earn enough for anything useful. It’s nice to have some “premium” uses for those otherwise 20,000 or so orphaned miles we each have.
Just FYI, there are regular award travel sales and you could get r/t coach tickets for under 20K miles on certain routes. Sign up for emails and look for the flash sales.
