What to do with expiring ANA miles

Hi experts,

I have about 17K miles in my balance and potentially up to 30K total including my husband's. At least 9K will expire in September.

It doesn't seem like a good deal to try to use those miles to upgrade my upcoming trip flying with EVA from SFO to TPE. Is there a way to use those ANA miles for US domestic flight flying with United? Can I book that online? I've been searching all over but couldn't seem to find answers.

I also believe my initial strategy of logging my united miles in ANA mileage club is incorrect as I don't really fly that frequently and Japan is not a regular destination for me, plus the miles do expire after 3 years....Is that assessment right to you all? Perhaps I need to go back to putting everything in United since now miles don't expire there.
