I had just met my (now since 21 years) husband. We were living in different countries and had planned to see each other the next weekend. It was late in the afternoon and were speaking on the phone. Suddenly my husband said: Why don´t you come to XX this weekend, too. I agreed immediately. Picked up the phone and called the travel agency asking them when a flight was leaving for XX. It turned out that it was only next morning. No, I said, that is too late. Where can I fly to instead, not too far away? It turned out she had a flight to YY, a city in another country, around 4 hours drive from XX. I took that flight. It was departing one our later. During that hour I manged to "pack my bag" (i.e. open bag and throw in whatever I could find), call boyfriend to tell him to start driving towards YY to meet me there, drive to airport (15 kilometers away, normally taking 15-20 minutes), go to ticket office to get ticket (paper back then), run to gate (I guess security was quicker at that time) and on to the flight just before gate closure. I remember I told the stewardess my story and she gave me champagne to calm down. No idea how I managed. Relatively small airport, but still. Had a great week-end by the way. :-D
