I was flying LHR-CAI-ZRH a couple of years ago. LHR-CAI on BA as the last leg of my TP run and then a separat ticket on LX back to ZRH. 3h layover in CAI should be doable. However our BA B788 had some technical problems and we sat on the ground in LHR for a good 3h! We arrived in CAI at about 00:30 and I was out of the aircraft at 00:45. My LX flight had a ETD of 01:00... LX leaves from another Terminal in CAI and the buildings are not connected with each other. Naturally I thought my flight was gone and I was hoping I could rebook my flight to a later LH flight via FRA. Nevertheless I thought I'll try my luck and approached the transferfesk, cause I had read a few stories that things work differently in CAI. I approached the desk and the guy was like:"When does your flight leave?" Me:"I'm trying to connect to LX which leaves about now from the other Terminal" He:"ohhh, you late!" Me:"I know, my incoming BA flight was delayed". He then asked my for my passport and scribbled something in to a big book and asked me to take a seat. I wasn't having any hopes, but sure enough about 5min later a guy turned up and the guy at the transferfesk told me to follow him as he will bring me to the other Terminal. We went through a couple of back doors into a Van, drove a couple of minutes to the other Terminal, entered the Terminal through some back door and went to some LX counter. I handed the guy at the counter my paasport and he said "you know you're late". Me "Yes, I know I'm late!". He took my passport and disapeard into some back room and came back some minutes later, gave me my boarding pass and said: "We have upgraded you to Business Class and hurry hup, the gate closes in 10min". Of course I ran through the airport to my gate, just to find a huge queue for secondary security and hardly anyone had boarded. They called up Business Class and Star Gold customers to come forward and I went through security without any hassle. Waited another couple of minutes in the gate area and then boarding began. Only then did I realize that not only did I get a upgrade to Business, but there was also a aircraft change from a narrowbody A321 to a widebody A330! So I was a very happy chap!
