I can agree with you that one isolated quote (even if damning) could indeed be entirely unrepresentative, but having looked into more detail at some of what the New York Times and others report, the sum and specific focus of the quotes is, however, flabbergasting in my view.
To be fair I hadn’t yet read the NYT article when I posted that comment; I had just come out of a meeting.
