Last year, returning from AMS to BRU via railway, due to strong winds - and then trees on the tracks - we stopped in a village out of Antwerp with no estimated time for re-departure. If that was the train to take the trip's first flight it would have been a big problem... On that experience we decided we will always take any train before the last useful one, even if it will means to arrive 3h or 4h early at the airport. Better early than sorry.
