I can agree with you that one isolated quote (even if damning) could indeed be entirely unrepresentative, but having looked into more detail at some of what the New York Times and others report, the sum and specific focus of the quotes is, however, flabbergasting in my view. It screams of arrogance, deception, and a conscious show to push through designs which the authors thought/knew to be flawed for commercial/financial reasons. The way some of those leaked emails refer to regulatory authorities are equally worrying. As a nexus of comments (rather than any individual one which indeed illustrates that nexus) this is actually pretty shocking.
