I had already validated my passport in December so it asks you to tap your card on an RFID reader. I tried three times, no go. Then it kicked me out, next machine took the card but wouldn’t take a photo. Third time the charm and I got my slip. I went to the end of the lane and waited. All of the booths were open up to about the third booth from my end, so just to my left. The agent (female) kept calling up people from the main line, ignoring me. Then a flight crew came up to the lane beside me. Another agent rushed over from the exit lane and looked at their slips and waved them through. I asked about me and he said the female agent would call me next. She didn’t. Then a pax with a walker came into the lane beside. She called her up. Then called from the regular line again. Then she called a foreign couple who had wandered into the crew lane (obviously confused). A few people were behind me by now and we were all getting a bit pissed off. The guy came over again and said we were next. Finally, I was called over. She asked me where I came from (um, the flight came up on the screen and I confirmed it), how long I had been away, what I was bringing back (nothing). So pretty much exactly as if I was in the regular lane. Then after me, she called the next person from the regular line again.

I always sit in row 2 so first off. With the old system, I easily made it from the door of the plane to the Skytrain in under 10 minutes. Without fail, every time. Tonight took over 25 minutes just to get past the CBP booth (and I was the first person at the Nexus kiosk) and by then I was behind all of the other pax to get to the agent to hand in my slip at the exit. Without a dedicated booth for Nexus, at busy times this will be a gong show. If this is the new normal, it completely defeats the purpose of having Nexus.
Can you write YVR and CBSA about your experience? I think they might be getting used to the new system and any feedback would be helpful.
