Agree, pretty sure I've seen either class of service or hard dollar limits on reimbursement. A policy I had a few years ago limits change fees to $250 (even though my business class change fee was $500) and Itinerary Change limits of $500. I think the primary reason for the purchase of airline insurance is trip cancellation - if something happens that you can't make the trip and you've got a bunch of nonrefundable/nonchangeable plans. There may also be some value to the medical benefits & emergency evacuation/repatriation depending on your personal health insurance (e.g., mine covers accidents but not illness overseas). For the other stuff like baggage and delays you're better off self-insuring, and you can get reimbursement from the airline in most cases anyway. For the particular trip above, I had a misconnect in CDG related to an AF strike that resulted in a 24 hour delay (which I was actually not upset about). I was in first class so AF took care of everything. Meals in the lounge, hotel room, etc.. I think I sent in reimbursement to the travel insurance for a change of underwear/T-shirt I purchased in the airport, but I probably could have gotten AF to pay for that too, I just wanted to get
something back from the insurance premium I paid!
