Charged for infight oxygen?

A friend of mine was traveling LGW-DFW. This was her first time to fly EVER. She has a serious lung illness and I suggested that she consult with her doctor before flying as she might need oxygen during the flight. The doctor felt that she would not need oxygen.

About 1.5 hours into the flight she began to feel very ill and felt that she in fact did need oxygen. The cabin crew was MOST helpful and polite. She provided her medical documents and they hooked up the oxygen suppy for her. She felt better quickly and used the oxygen for the duration of the flight.

As her doctor had indicated that she would not need oxygen I didnt investigate the procedures for obtaining it inflight. The flight crew charged her 100 pounds for the oxygen. Frankly, I find that outrageous. I could see a small charge for the service but 100 pounds? How on earth could it even remotely cost that much?

She will be making the return flight soon and I plan to call and make arrangements for the oxygen ahead of time. If she is to pay 100 pounds for the return as well she will be in serious financial straights. Is 100 pounds the normal fee? Should I try to get the money reimbursed?

This is not a rant about the crew as they were most gracious and helpful. 200 pounds return is some serious cash considering that the ticket itself only cost about 300 pounds. Any suggestions would be welcome.
