Back in the early 1980s and perhaps earlier, the Oriental and the Okura (in Tokyo) vied for number one position on many top hotels of the world lists. Times have changed, the Okura has dropped far in rank but was recently rebuilt. Still, the Oriental is a great hotel, in my view, though I need to go back to confirm that it's still true under new ownership.
