Updating credit card used for a booking
I had a booking for the Hilton Times Square, and a few months ago updated it with a new credit card due to Lloyds cancelling their Amex cards. A few days before my booking I had an email from the hotel claiming they couldn't charge my card and if I didn't contact them within a few hours, my booking would be cancelled.
They hadn't attempted to charge the card on file as I would get a notification. I replied to the mail but ended up phoning so they wouldn't cancel my booking. The card details they read out to me were my old card.
Whilst I suspect they were hoping I'd not contact them and they'd get to cancel a cheap rate and get more money for it, should the hotel be able to see updated card details? When I phoned and commented that the card details he had didn't match the Hilton site, he didn't seem to care, so I gave my new card number, they did a test of a $1 and they seemed happy.
Anyway, now it seems my new card will be cancelled soon (Tandem, if anyone cares) so I will update my booking again with a new card. Was I just unlucky with the Hilton TS or should I proactively contact them to force a refresh of my booking?
TIA!
