HND segregates arrivals and departures in the international terminal. There's basically no choice but to proceed to immigration upon deplaning. I'm not sure it's even possible to go to another gate to stand and wait for another arrival and attempting to do so is likely to cause suspicion.

OTOH, it's a fairly small terminal and would be easy to meet in baggage claim (perhaps at the belt for the later flight) or just after exiting customs, although that area of the airport can be crowded. If you continue toward public transportation by walking straight ahead, there's an information desk that could be a good meeting point.
