Have a look at some of the other regional AC routes. Previously 42 from YYZ was over Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan to DEL. now it's been moved further northeast over Uzbekistan-Tajikistan, barely touching Afghanistan and Pakistan, carefully moving further away from Iranian airspace and a possibility of an errant missile strike while passing through Turkmenistan.
My takeway is that AC is being proactive and responsible.
