Other than possibly in one opinion, no one in this thread is "hating" on Osaka. Combining Osaka and Kyoto stays to a single hotel is a pragmatic option to avoid the hassle of changing properties. If you enjoy both cities enough to want to stay in each for multiple days, then obviously that's the better choice for you.
I still think it'd be prudent to shorten the Osaka/Kyoto portion of the trip in order to allow more time in Hokkaido.
