I mean, other issuers have been getting rid of raised numbers for a while (which has caused issues at some rental car counters outside the US). Apple not showing anything on the card itself is pretty much the next logical progression of that idea.
Anyway, the point is more that getting rid of the desk interaction might very well work around the issue with Apple Card, assuming there's no other technical reason for rejecting it. Worst case, OP can just use another card for Hertz like they've done before.
