Also, if nothing else, the last few locations I've been to seemed to have terminals that could accept a chip insertion (though I don't know if that's enabled as I don't usually go to the front desk).
It's probably as [MENTION=10067896]mctaste[/MENTION] said; they can't verify a card without numbers on it. That's what Apple does - remove useful features like headphone jacks for cost cutting, then say it is an "act of courage".
