If you're heading that way and you have a car, I'd suggest touring other places nearby - Estremoz,
Monsarraz,
Viana do Alentejo, (the real) Cuba [pretty ugly IMHO, but worth a picture with the Columbus statue], and a drive through the countryside in Alentejo.
Then drive to Obidos stopping in Santarem on the way to visit the Gardens, spend 2 nights in Obidos staying at the Pousada. While in Obidos, the intention is to leave town during the crowded daytime, maybe visiting Praia de São Martinho do Porto and the fortress at Peniche.
Peniche is cool (if the ex-political prison fort is open - you should peek in), but definitely add Nazaré as a stop.
I thought we get Transit Passes in Lisbon which I understand includes the train to Sintra.
There are
different versions.
CARRIS/Metro - [trams, buses, metro, funiculars] 6.40€
CARRIS/Metro/Transtejo (Cacilhas) Same as above + ferry to the south bank (Cacilhas only) 9.55€
CARRIS/Metro/CP - same as the first pass + train to Sintra and Cascais 10,60
All are valid for 24 hours from first activation.
