Thanks to the suggestion up-thread, I'm now going to fly into MEL, hire a car and trundle down to Sorrento for a night followed by a night down in Lorne and then back to Melbourne. Eating and sightseeing along the way of course.
A different adventure than what I had originally planned, but new territory for me and I'll get to travel on the proper Great Ocean Road!
When will you be in Melbourne? I'll be there next week. I'll be visiting with a friend who lives there. He said he has plans to drive out to the Yarra Valley, but subject to change based on weather/fires.
If you can, I highly suggest driving out to the Twelve Apostles. We did that, but a short version straight there/back from Melbourne as a daytrip (it was a long day but was definitely doable).
