I've stayed at the hotel twice (once pre Hurricane and once post) and a third time elsewhere on property and don't really agree with the full assessment here. Anywhere you go during Christmas week is going to be both completely booked and full of children. We were there in November and saw basically no other children except for our own. We didn't need to reserve chairs by the pool at sunrise and didn't have to fight for servers' attention. Most of the time, we had pools almost entirely to ourselves and never saw more than about a dozen people on the beach.
That being said, like many other locations in this part of the world, service is not going to compare with the attentiveness and quickness you may experience at high end properties in Asia. There also are only 3 restaurants onsite and yep they definitely will get repetitive over a 5-day stay and none are really that great. So you have to go in knowing what to expect. I would never pay cash to stay at the hotel and only have used points (was a real steal when it was only 60K/night). The last time we were there, we paid cash to stay at a condo onsite through AirBNB or VRBO - significantly less than the hotel rates for way more space. You get all the property amenities (pools, gym, Boathouse, etc) plus a kitchen so you don't have to eat every meal at their restaurants but still get the experience of being there. If you stop by the hotel concierge, they'll also let you set up a house account so you can bill all your meals or whatever else so you don't need to carry cash/cards around. For us, it wasn't worth 80-90K points per night plus resort fee plus parking fees vs $500-600/night for a 2bd or 3bd condo.
At the end of the day, the hard product and grounds are fantastic and we couldn't find anywhere else like it at this price point with a nonstop flight from the East Coast. The service is good enough and our kids have a lot of fun there. Can't wait to go back.
