I've taken Shanghai Airlines between BKK and PVG a few times as part of a Delta itinerary to/from the States...never flown MU long haul, but the Shanghai Airlines 737 is one of the 2 connections to BKK out of PVG. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I was on this flight - sure, it's not lie flat or a suite, but for a 4-hour flight, it is perfectly acceptable: seats felt refurbished with new fabric and are very comfortable upright or reclined with plenty of legroom; service was excellent and the food surprisingly good (wine selection not the best, admittedly); and while the timing of the flights isn't the best, getting through immigration at Suvarnabhumi is a breeze that time of the day on either end of the journey, as is the traffic getting into/from the city. Furthermore, I've never experienced a delay getting out of or to PVG. I'm now based out of Toronto and have booked YYZ-PVG-BKK for an upcoming trip - booked without hesitation...at least for the PVG-BKK-PVG portions of the journey.
