I am with moondog here, and also recommend CA over MU in this case.
If your mother already "suffers physically", putting her through a 19-hour "PVG transit tour" (from other thread) seems awfully punitive.
Air China is a fine airline, with good safety record, decent food, decent seats, and decently attentive Flight Attendants. They aren't the best, but in this case most likely preferable over the MU option.
