however, this raises an interesting question: I established a personal account ~1983; my employer opened an account in my name a few years later ... that’s the one I’ve been using since ~1992 (when they quit trying to capture the miles), but I don’t know if they were ever merged
If they weren't, all the SkyMiles from the personal one have expired, but the lifetime MQMs can still be added to your current account.
