Final note, before anyone asks, we both have our own schwab platinum cards because of the signup bonuses, and when we opened the cards we were able to double dip the airline credits as AA gift cards (2018 calendar year/2019 calendar year, since we opened them dec 2018). And the annual fee was lower back then.
I've posted this before, but due to the structure of the credits and your personal value of them, it can make more sense to have 2 separate accounts. Adding an Plat AU costs $175 (unless you have the MS Plat, which the 1st AU is free) and adds no additional credits. The net AF of a Plat card minus the face value of credits is $50. How you reconcile the delta between the face value of credits and personal value is YMMV of course.
