The key here is the phrase I've highlighted. If on the same reservation, the medallion member and companion are eligible for upgrades. If on separate reservations, only paid ticket non-status companions are eligible for upgrades.
The T&C’s don’t explicitly say that award ticket UG’s aren’t eligible. I have done this before recently and was successful in getting my companion on a separate award ticket on the UG list for FC. Before DL did some more re-designing to their website, this is how the T&C’s stated how this works.
