Was this an ex-SkyWest plane? Even in the old days of one closet (before they re-configured and re-designated the CRAs to CR9s), I don't ever remember being refused to put my bag in the closet.

But will they do it? As I said, I've heard many people ask and be refused. Maybe pre-Amadeus it wasn't possible and it has changed.
