BAL was Friendship International Airport and was renamed to BWI in 1973. It took over from Baltimore Municipal Airport, which closed in 1960.
"the airport was renamed
Baltimore/Washington International Airport, effective November 16, 1973."
"BAL got to start using BWI in 1973."
Including name changes (as opposed to code changes)? - I flew from the old Greater Pittsburgh International Airport, now Pittsburgh International Airport, to a few airports that no longer exist/no longer serve commercial flights. Stapleton and Groton come to mind. I'm sure there are several others that have just changed names.
