Similar occurrence about 20 years ago in New Orleans on Dec 26. It was an icy rain that was still going on at noon, no sun, still lots of fog. The airport ran out of deicing fluid completely so nothing was flying.
I was flying MSY-DFW-ONT (DFW was still a Delta hub). My original reroute was 12/29, but eventually got 12/27 MSY-DFW on DL and then DFW-BUR on AA. Had to rent a car at BUR to drop at ONT where I'd parked my car.
I had to be back because I was bringing a turducken to California for a post-Xmas/pre-NYE dinner.
