Another tip is to think about what your stay is for?..... is it your birthday, your partners birthday or perhaps an anniversary?.
Might be worth mentioning that in the special requests box too along the lines of - “ hi, I’m looking forward to our stay at your hotel , as it’s our anniversary/birthday/ celebration it would be kindly appreciated if we were upgraded, many thanks “
