On one of the flights they had a beverage cart positioned at the entrance to the galley. When I asked if I could go around the other side I was told it for the safety of the pilot. I assumed that meant just when he was using the lav or about to leave or enter the cockpit. But the cart stayed there the entire 8-9 hour flight and I saw several pax turned away.
The beverage cart is definitely positioned to block off access to the area when pilots come out to use the lavatories but this is only for a brief period as they use these. Then the cart is moved away once the pilots go back into the cockpit. Not the same at all to blocking the lavatories for the whole flight or significant portion of it.
